Last Feast Day Celebration

It was a wonderful celebration at the National Shrine of the Little Flower Basilica in Royal Oak, Michigan, as hundreds came to celebrate the relic of Blessed Solanus Casey as well as the chair he would sit in when he visited the church in the 1940s during his time here in Detroit.

Before the mass, which was celebrated by Archbishop Vigneron , we were fortunate to sit down with Sister Anne Herkenrath – the great niece of Father Solanus Casey, who had come in from Seattle for the Feast Day Celebration Week. She helped us to better understand the type of person Solanus Casey (Bernard) was, as well as the journey he took to become a Capuchin Franciscan Friar. Also offering his thoughts as a young boy who would, on occasion, play ball with our beloved Blessed Casey was James Conley.

Monsignor McClory of the National Shrine of the Little Flower Basilica then sat with us to help us better understand the significance of the evening. This esteemed spiritual leader of the church also shared insightful thoughts on faith and what a miracle is as it relates to the Catholic dogma.

The entire day and evening of production was a poignant testament to just how beloved the simple doorman friar of St. Bonaventure has become to not only Detroit, but also the entire world.
