This past Friday, my team and I at Visionalist Entertainment Productions had the wonderful honor to have spent the day with Brother Richard Merling, co-postulator for Father Solanus Casey’s final stage of his journey to becoming a saint.
Friday was just the beginning. It was one of many production sessions to come as we craft the life story through insightful interviews and recreations of the very humble man who grew up as one of sixteen children in an Irish Immigrant family.
Brother Richard, a quiet and spiritual man who exudes holiness when you’re in his presence, knew Father Solanus personally after meeting him at the age of 15. He will be one of many who will help us better understand Solanus’ life, much of which was spent in Detroit at St. Bonaventure Monastery. Father Solanus lived his legacy from 1870 to 1957.
Our film will also give us a better understanding of the life of a Franciscan Capuchin Friar. I am certain the story of Blessed Solanus’ life journey will also enable our audience to do some of their own self-reflection about what they do each day in their own lives to help others.
We are extremely honored to work on this PBS film, which we hope to have ready for a beautiful community celebration premiere summer 2019.
